When you plan your trip to Hurghada, you can choose from a variety of excursions, including a day trip to the Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, Colossi of Memnon, or the Mortuary Templar of Hatshepsut. Depending on how much time you have to explore the area, these excursions may be geared toward the whole family.
Luxor Temple
The Luxor Temple is located on the west bank of the Nile and is one of Egypt’s top tourist attractions. Among the 63 royal tombs are the ancient Mortary Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. A guided Hurghada excursion to the Valley of the Kings includes a felucca cruise. Alternatively, you can also take a motorboat to see the temple from a different perspective. On windy days, motorboats can be hired instead.
Most tours to the Luxor Temple depart from your hotel and take about 3 hours. You will have the opportunity to tour the Valley of the Kings, visit the tombs of the pharaohs, and witness the mysterious Colossi of Memnon. You can also opt for a private tour in which your tour guide speaks English. You can also choose to spend part of the day exploring Luxor’s markets, as well as shopping in the original papyrus institutes.
Karnak Temple
If you have enough time during your stay in Hurghada, then you should take one of the excursions to Karnak Temple. It is an ancient temple complex that includes one of the largest religious structures in the world. This impressive site includes a large open-air museum and the oldest known peace treaty. It is also located in modern day Luxor. It is also home to the memorial temple of Hatshepsut, which is half-cut out of the jagged cliffs.
The general entrance ticket costs around EGP240 (US$14) and gives you access to three tombs. Ticket prices for the tombs of Tutankhamun, Ramses V, and Seti I are extra. Private tours are also available and will take two days. These are popular excursions from Hurghada and include both sightseeing and transportation. You can also opt for a private day tour if you have a large group of friends or want to explore the entire temple complex on your own.
Colossi of Memnon
One of the must-sees on any Hurghada excursion is a visit to the Colossi of Memnon, a pair of 59-foot-tall statues that once guarded the temple of King Amenhotep III. Though significantly damaged, the Colossi are still well worth the trip. These ancient monuments are the largest and best-preserved relics of ancient Egypt.
The Colossi of Memnon are a famous tourist attraction in the area, dating back to Graeco-Roman times. The two statues were attributed to the legendary African king Memnon, who was killed by the Greek hero Achilles during the Trojan War. During the Roman and Greek periods, visitors were said to experience good luck by hearing the whistling sound from the northern statue at sunrise. It is thought that this sound is caused by a crack that formed in the upper body of the colossus during the earthquake that struck the region in 27 BC.
Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut
If you’re looking for a unique vacation in Egypt, consider booking a Hurghada excursion to the Mortuary Temple of Hats Hepsut. This incredible monument was designed by the architect Senenmut, and was dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut in 1479 BCE. Designed after Mentuhotep II’s mortuary temple, this stunning temple was made even grander.
Located in El Deir El Bahary, this great site is dedicated to the first female pharaoh, Queen Hatshepsut. This great monument is a must-see for any history buff. After visiting the Mortuary Temple, be sure to spend time in Luxor and shop at the original papyrus institutes.
