Before sunrise, it’s time to go to Luxor West Bank! After checking out from the hotel, we continue the 2 Day Luxor Tour from Cairo by plane incl. Hot Air Balloon with the ride to the opposite bank of the Nile River to Luxor West Bank and pass on our way early in the morning one of the Luxor attractions, the
Colossi of Memnon
The guardians of the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III that now stand very lonely at the entrance of the rocky mountains in the West Bank of the Nile River were once known for their “singing” that was caused by the wind going through the cracks in the huge statues. During restoration work, these cracks were closed and the voices of the Colossi of Memnon stopped. We leave the massive statues behind and make our way to the start point of the Hot Air Balloon.
Luxor Hot Air Balloon
The ground crew is already awaiting you to help you "board" the Hot Air Balloon. Off you go with our special Luxor attraction, a Luxor Hot Air Balloon Ride over the largest open-air museum in the world. Enjoy the unique opportunity to experience the monuments of Thebes (Luxor in antiquity) with the Karnak and Luxor Temple, which you visited yesterday, the still outstanding Hatshepsut temple and the famous Valley of the Kings from a birds-eye view. After about 45 minutes of exciting driving over the Nile Valley, we land on the West Bank of the Nile River and continue our excursion, not without receiving a flight certificate (a great certificate for those who stayed at home), with a visit to the
Valley of the Kings
The famous Valley of the Kings, hidden in the rock massif, is one of the most spectacular places among the Luxor sights. More than 65 famous graves have been discovered, and you will visit 3 of them that are available for selection. Our archaeologist will be happy to help you choose the 3 most impressive tombs. The most famous tomb in the Valley of the Kings, the one of Tutankhamun, whose grave goods are preserved in the famous Egyptian Museum in Cairo, can be visited with that of Seti I and Ramses VI for a surcharge.
When entering the tombs that lead deep into the rocky mountains, you will be overwhelmed by the well-preserved wall paintings that each tell the story of the respective kings. You will see that it makes a big difference to see photos and hear stories about the tombs and to feel the fascination of this necropolis yourself. After some time in the Valley of the Kings, we continue our way to the next Luxor sights, the beautiful
Hatshepsut Temple
that already can be seen from the promenade of the East Bank thanks to its illumination in the evening. We reach the Hatshepsut Temple, built by the female ruler Hatshepsut that ruled over whole Egypt for more than 22 years, as an architectural masterpiece at the strategic location in the rocky mountains of the West Bank. The Temple of Hatshepsut consist of many steps and on the upper terrace, a breathtaking view over the Nile River Bank awaits you. On the back, the rock massiv secures the temple construction.
To this day, the terraced temple can keep up with the most modern construction methods. At the top of this temple construction, you will be surprised by the well-preserved reliefs that cover the masonry. Our Egyptologist is always available to answer all the questions you might have about the History of the Hatshepsut Temple.
We reach the end of our 2 Day Luxor Tour including an Overnight stay from Cairo by plane and take you back to Luxor East Bank for the flight to Cairo. After you arrive at Cairo Airport, we take you back to your accommodation in Cairo with the best wishes for the rest of your Cairo holiday.
