The Al Azhar Park, now one of the most beautiful places of relaxation in Cairo, was communal garbage dumb for a very long time (about 500 years) and was only converted into one of the 60 largest parks worldwide with the help of Aga Khan and Trust for Culture in 1984 with coasts of around 33 million. This is how the so-called “green lung” of Cairo was created.   

While 80.000 truckloads of rubble have been removed for the construction of Al Azhar Park in Cairo, an Ayyubid city wall was discovered, dating from the time of Saladin in the 12th century.  

Al Azhar Park has become a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the big city and Cairo’s residents spend their free time in the park dining in one of the restaurants or enjoying traditional coffee.   

Enjoy the view from this beautiful park located on a hill in Cairo (Mokattam Mountain) and don’t forget to take some photos of the metropolis of Cairo, the Citadel and the Alabaster Mosque.
