Karnak Temple
The impressive Karnak Temple is one of the largest temple complexes ever built in human history and consists of many architectural masterpieces like a Pillared Hall, the famous Hypostyle Hall, a 300-tonne Obelisk and several small temples inside the structure. Our Egyptologist will explain to you the masterpieces of the Karnak Temple construction and how its stones came from the quarries in the south of Egypt over the Nile River to Luxor.
Take a stroll through the Karnak Temple complex and look at the impressive monuments that describe the life of Egyptians during the time of the Pharaohs. Before leaving the Karnak Temple behind, we visit the outside area of the temple complex where you can see the “Holy Lake” that was used for ceremonial ablution and is still filled with water to this day. From here, we make our way to the next stop of our day tour Cairo, the not less attractive Luxor West Bank with its famous
Valley of the Kings
On our way to Valley of the Kings, we pass the famous Memnon Colossi and take a lunch break in a local restaurant. After that, we visit three breathtaking tombs in the Valley of the Kings (included in the entrance fee).
The Valley of the Kings, whose tombs were once hidden from grave robbers, is located deep in a rock massif. Unfortunately, the effort of the pharaohs to protect their tombs from discovery was in vain as many graves, apart from the famous Tutankhamun tomb, were discovered by grave robbers before archaeologists discovered them.
The drawings, which are still wonderfully preserved and tell the story of the single pharaohs, have not been damaged and make the Valley of the Kings one of the most famous Luxor sights. Our archaeologist is always by your side to help you choose the most interesting tombs and to answer all your questions that you might have about the history of the Valley of the Kings. After this fascinating visit with deep impressions of the time of the pharaohs, we leave the valley for our next stop, the beautiful
Hatshepsut Temple
High in the rock, this architecturally very interesting temple of the only female ruler of Egypt awaits you. Queen Hatshepsut ruled for more than 22 years over Egypt.
As soon as you arrive, the beautiful terrace temple presents itself in full splendour, with its steps that lead up to the Hatshepsut Temple. Queen Hatshepsut chose this strategically place for her mortuary temple because of the view over the Nile Valley on the one side and the protective rock on the other site. As soon as you reach the upper terrace, you can enjoy the wonderful view over the Nile River, Egypt’s lifeline.
While walking through the temple hall, pay attention to the well-preserved reliefs on the walls. Our Egyptologist will tell you some more about them and the history of the Hatshepsut Temple. We leave the temple complex and Luxor West Bank for our final visit to Luxor East Bank.
Luxor Temple
The Luxor Temple was once connected to the Karnak Temple by a processional path. Today this path has been restored after many years of restoration work.
We visit the temple complex located on the beautiful promenade of Luxor that, in contrast to Karnak Temple, was not used for worship but as a coronation temple. Alexander the Great removed the 4 pillars that supported the roof and built a chapel. In the first century AD, 4 churches were built on its site of which only ruins remain today. The Luxor Temple also served as a fortress in Roman times.
We take a stroll through the beautiful collonades to the Holy of Holies and leave the Luxor Temple for the ride back to Luxor Airport.
With the flight back to Cairo and the transfer to your accommodation in the capital of Egypt, our tour Flight from Cairo to Luxor to the most famous Luxor sights in 1 Day ends.
