Hurghada, starts with the pick-up from your accommodation. In the early morning, we start our
Hurghada Day Trip to Luxor, probably the largest
open air museum in the world. Enjoy the ride in a small group through the mountain scenery on the edge of the
Red Sea while we make our way to
Luxor.
After arriving in
Luxor we first visit the impressive
Karnak Temple
Probably the largest
temple complex worldwide, he’s located on the
Luxor East Bank and consists of small temples, chapels and the
holy lake. The
Sphinx Alley at the entrance forms the end of a long processional path. This path was formerly the connection between the
Luxor Temple and the
Karnak Temple. After years of excavation work, the
Luxor Sphinx Avenue has been restored.
Entering the
Karnak Temple you are first in a huge columned Hall. It’s still a mystery how these massive structures were built in the time of the pharaohs in
ancient Egypt. Use the light-flooded columned hall with its large statues for some impressive photos before we go further inside the
temple complex. Don’t hesitate to ask questions! Our
Egyptologist will be happy to explain the history of the temple to you. At the outdoor area of the
Karnak Temple we will visit the
Karnak sacred lake which was used by pharaohs in
ancient Egypt for ablution ceremonies.
We leave the
Karnak Temple and visit the neighbouring
Luxor Temple
Known as “Coronation Temple”, the
Luxor Temple is located on the beautiful bank promenade of the
Nile River and forms an impressive entrance to
Luxor City.
Alexander the Great rebuilt the
Luxor Temple, built under
Ramses II and Amenophis, into a fortress. Later 4 churches are added to the site, of which only one has survived to this day. Like the
Karnak Temple, the
Luxor Temple was built by several rulers. Inside the temple we visit the shrine before making our way to
Luxor West Bank but not without enjoying the wonderful view of the other Nile bank from
Luxor East Bank.
Get to know the traditional kitchen in
Luxor! Arrived at the
Luxor West Bank, we visit a traditional restaurant at the foot of the mountains for our lunch break. After lunch, we make our way to the last stop of our
private Luxor Tour, the
Habu Temple.
Habu Temple
One of the best-preserved temples is the
Habu Temple, whose reliefs tell the story of the victories of his builder
Ramses III. The story also talks about the first strike in the history of work, which took place during its construction period, as the workers of
Deir el-Medina stopped work cause of the bad work conditions.
A church was built inside the
Habu Temple during Christian time. With some residential houses in other parts, the
temple complex functioned as a city wall. To restore the
temple complex to its original state, the residential buildings were removed in 1859 and the remains of the church in 1891. During your visit, you will see that the excavations are still in the process to reconstruct the
Habu Temple.
