Luxor private tours by limousine or van
starts with the pick-up from your accommodation in
Safaga or the
Safaga Cruise Port early in the morning. We make our way from
Safaga to Luxor, probably the biggest
open-air museum in the world. In a small group, you can enjoy the ride through the mountain scenery on the edge of the
Red Sea on our way to
Luxor.
After arriving in
Luxor, we first visit the
Karnak Temple
Probably the biggest
temple complex in the world is located on
Luxor East Bank and houses several smaller temples, chapels and the
Karnak Holy Lake. The small
Avenue of Sphinxes at the entrance form the end of a long processional path that once connected the
Luxor Temple with the
Karnak Temple and has now been restored after years of excavation work.
After entering
Karnak Temple, you are right in the massive pillared hall. It is still a mystery how these massive structures were built, in the time of the pharaohs in
ancient Egypt. Use the light-flooded columned hall with its massive statues, for some impressive souvenir photos before we go further inside the
temple complex. Don't hesitate to ask our Egyptologist for some more details about the history of the
Karnak Temple.
Finally, we go to the
Holy Lake in the outside area of
Karnak Temple. The pharaohs in
ancient Egypt used it for ablution ceremonies. We leave
Karnak Temple behind us to visit the "neighbouring temple complex".
Luxor Temple
Known as
coronation temple, the impressive
Luxor Temple is located on the beautiful bank promenade of the
Nile River and forms an impressive entrance to
Luxor city. Under
Alexander the Great, the
Luxor Temple, built
by Ramses II and Amenophis, became a fortress. On its site, 4 churches were built, of which only one remained to this day. Like
Karnak Temple, the impressive
Luxor Temple was also built by several rulers during their reign.
We visit the sanctuary inside the
temple complex and make our way to
Luxor West Bank. Standing at
Luxor East Bank, we enjoy the wonderful view of the other bank of the
Nile River.
On this excursion, you will also get to know the traditional kitchen of
Luxor. After arriving on
Luxor West Bank, we visit a traditional restaurant at the foot of the mountains for a lunch break. After some time to rest, we make our way to the last point of our
Luxor Temple Tour, the
Habu Temple.
Habu Temple
One of the best-preserved temples is the
Habu Temple, whose reliefs tell the story of the victories of its builder
Ramses III. The story also tells that the first work strike in history took place during its construction, as the workers of
Deir el-Medina stopped work because of the bad condition. In one part of the
Habu Temple, a church was built during Christian times. In the other part were residential houses, with the
temple complex functioning as a city wall. In 1859 a start was made to restore the
temple complex to its original state by removing the residential buildings. In 1891 the remains of the church were removed as well. You will see that some excavations are still in the process of reconstructing
Habu Temple.
On our
Luxor Temple Tour, you will discover the different historical stories of
Karnak Temple, the wonderful
Luxor temple and
Habu Temple. All of this in a relaxing atmosphere on our
Luxor Private Tours with
Sempre Travel Egypt.
We leave
Luxor West Bank for our transfer back to your accommodation in
Safaga and hope you captured some of the best impressions of this
Luxor excursion from Safaga with your camera.
