Itinerary

Day 1: Karnak Temple, Al Kabash Road, Luxor Temple

You spend a beach vacation in Safaga or staying at Safaga Cruise Port at the moment, then enrich your holiday with a trip in the history of ancient Egypt! Discover together with Sempre Travel Egypt some of the most impressive Luxor sights during our Safaga to Luxor excursion incl. overnight stay.

With the pick-up from your accommodation or the Safaga port, we start our tour through the beautiful mountain landscape on the way to Luxor East Bank for the first stop of our tour, the

Karnak Temple

Karnak Temple, probably the biggest temple complex in the world, welcomes you with the impressive Sphinx Avenue before you enter the massive pillared hall of Karnak Temple. The former only short indicated Sphinx Avenue, which once has been a long processional path that connected Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple, was restored with great effort and opened in November 2021 with a phenomenal ceremony. Marvel at the

Al Kabbash Road

which now connects the two temples again. With Karnak Temple, you enter a holy place of worship in ancient Egypt. In the temple complex, consisting of several temples, is still the Holy Lake of Karnak, where sacrifices and purification rituals took place. We are sure you have some questions about the history of Karnak Temple. Our Egyptologist is more than happy to answer all of them.

After our walk through one of the most overwhelming temple complexes in the world, we take a break for lunch in a traditional restaurant in Luxor before continuing our Luxor tour with a visit at the

Luxor Temple

Luxor Temple, a coronation temple where coronation ceremonies were held in the time of the Pharaohs in Egypt, is located on the outskirts of the city directly on the promenade of the Nile River on Luxor East Bank.

The creation of the Luxor Temple extended over hundreds of years during the reigns of Amenhotep III, Ramses II and Tutankhamun and was dedicated to god Amun. In 2001, the World Monuments Fund donated a contribution to preserving the Luxor Temple. Sandstone fragments, which up until then were in the salty groundwater, were restored and still are. With that columns, and wall fragments were preserved, inscribed with hieroglyphics, which tell the story of the pharaohs. We do not leave Luxor Temple without taking a look at Luxor West Bank. Standing here, you can even spot the famous Hatshepsut Temple.

We take you to your accommodation in Luxor for the check-in and to relax a bit. Use your free time to join us on one of our optionally offered Luxor sightseeing trips in the evening, such as the Karnak sound and light show or how about a traditional Egyptian meal?

Day 2: Luxor

Valley of the Kings

The sunrise in Egypt starts very early, so we start the second day of our Luxor sightseeing tours right after breakfast with the drive to the Valley of the Kings. Up here in the rock massif, we visit 3 of the most beautiful graves of countless that were discovered deep in the mountains.

During your visit, you will also get some more information about the history of the wall painting. You will be amazed at how the drawings were created, and how good they are preserved. Natural paints, including egg yolk, gave them great colors. A real masterpiece! The world-famous Valley is home to a lot, some of it still uncovered. On our way to the Valley of the Kings, we might even meet some archaeologists searching for discoveries. We leave the Valley of the Kings behind us for our next destination:

Habu Temple

Habu Temple is a witness of Egypt's defensive battles against Libuan tribes and various sea peoples under Ramses III. The reliefs of the mortuary temple, build in Medinet Habu, tell the story of the victory of the Pharaoh. During his reign, the first documented strike in history took place, the strike of Deir el-Medina, in which workers stopped work during the construction of his grave due to poor supply. This also indicated economic difficulties at the end of Ramses III domination.

During the Christian period, a Coptic church was built within the walls of one part of the Habu Temple. In the other part of the temple complex, some houses were built. The residential buildings from this period were removed in 1859 (after the city was abandoned in the 9th century). To restore Habu Temple to its former state, the remains of the church were removed in 1891. To this day, excavations are still taking place to reconstruct the original condition of Habu Temple.

We leave the facility and, after consultation with you, take our lunch break in a traditional restaurant on Luxor West Bank.

Our last stop of the Luxor Tour leads us to

Deir el-Medina - the monastery of the city

Deir el-Medina got the name "Monastery of the City" from the small Hathor temple, located north of the workers' settlement. For a long time, the place was inhabited by Coptic monks.

It was built on Luxor West Bank, the former Thebes-West, during the reign of Amenhotep I. From about 1520 to 1069 BC. the workers and artists who created and decorated the tombs of the pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings lived here with their families. The ancient ruins of the settlement provide archaeologists with important information about the life of the common people at that time. Their cemeteries, located right next to the settlement, are a surprise with excellent wall paintings that are in no way inferior in perfection to the royal tombs of Egypt and even surpass the execution of the noble tombs.

With many impressions of Luxor East Bank and Luxor West Bank, our Safaga to Luxor Sightseeing 2 Days from Safaga ends with the transfer back to your accommodation in Safaga or the Safaga Cruise Port.
