Day 1: Arrival in Cairo

On your arrival at Cairo Airport, our staff will give you a warm welcome, help you with the visa formalities and accompany you to your Cairo hotels.

Take a break from the flight and relax a bit, and don't hesitate our tour guide for some help planning your first day in the metropolis of Cairo. Based on your need we can offer various optional excursions to discover Cairo by night. How about a romantic dinner on one of the anchored Nile Cruise ships or a visit to the Pyramid Sound and Light Show, which will also give you a great introduction to tomorrow's program.

Day 2: Pyramids of Giza – Memphis Saqqara

In the morning, after breakfast in the hotel, we start our tour to the first of many Cairo sights, the impressive and famous 3 Pyramids of Giza that are located on the edge of the capital of Egypt right at the Giza Plateau. Once there and standing at the foot of the great Cheops Pyramid, the middle Chephren Pyramid and the smaller Mykerinos Pyramid, you will feel the fascination that emanates from this necropolis, a true masterpiece of antiquity, built more than 4.000 years ago as the tombs of the pharaohs.

Almost everybody has seen the Great Sphinx of Giza, guardian of the Cairo Pyramids and the Giza Valley Temple, already in photos. The statue impresses with a massive body of a lion mixed with the head of a human.

You will now have the opportunity to see the Sphinx up close before we leave the Giza Plateau for a break with lunch and then continue our tour to the approximately 20 km away

capital of Egypt in ancient times. For thousands of years, Memphis was home to various pharaohs, and in more than 3000 years, a big necropolis was formed with countless mastabas, tombs, mortuary temples and pyramids. We visit the ruins of the city and then go to the Saqqara necropolis with one of the first pyramids, the

Saqqara Step Pyramid

also called Pyramid of Djoser after its builder. The Saqqara step pyramid is only one of more than 100 pyramids built outside of Cairo but is considered by archaeologists to be the pioneer of pyramid construction.

You can find the Pyramid of Djoser in the northern part of the Saqqara Necropolis, which is divided into two areas. The construction consists of 6 layers in different sizes, and this gives the Pyramid a step shape up to a height of 62 Meters. Experts see the Djoser pyramid as a successor to a tomb only covered with a floor slab and to be the preliminary stage of the pyramid construction which you know from the 3 Pyramids of Giza.

Archaeologists around the world are certain that the Saqqara necropolis still hides a lot of undiscovered things and the search for graves continues to this day. We leave Saqqara and drive back to your hotel in Cairo for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Saladin Citadel – Muhammad Ali Mosque – Khan el-Khalili

After enjoying breakfast in the hotel, we are ready for today's tour. Our Egyptologist will pick you up and takes you to the Saladin Citadel, located at one of the most beautiful spots of Cairo, the so-called Mokattam Mountain. This spot offers a breathtaking view over a large part of the city, and with good visibility, you can even see up to the Pyramids of Giza. Below the fortresses are the Sultan Hassan Mosque and the Ibn Tulun Mosque, parts of Cairo Islamic Center.

Muhammad Ali Mosque (Alabaster Mosque)

After an explosion in the ammunition dump destroyed part of the citadel in 1824, Muhammad Ali had a large mosque built in the ruined area of the Saladin Citadel. His son Said Pasha completed the construction in 1857. Not far from the Saladin Citadel is something that nobody in the metropolis of Cairo would suspect, the "green lung" of Cairo, the Al Azhar Park, which the Cairo residents visit at the weekends to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

With impressions of the beautiful view over Cairo, we leave the Plateau for a break with lunch in a local restaurant in Cairo before we continue our excursion by driving to

Khan el-Khalili

In the Islamic part of the Old Cairo is one of the oldest and largest markets in Africa, the famous Khan el-Khalili Bazaar. With a tour to this big market (souq), you visit an oriental market from the 14th century, built on a former mausoleum site as a caravanserai (Arabic = khan) and trading center. The name consists of the name and place of origin of its founder: Emir Jarkas Al Khalili.

Nowadays you enter Khan el Khalili through a gate, the only one left from the original three entrances to Khan el Khalili. The market has a turbulent past that you still can feel today. In the 15th century, it became famous as a trading center for valuable stones and served as a market for the slave trade.

Today the perfect place to find one or the other souvenir from the wide range of fragrances, oils, teas and oriental handicrafts. After a stroll through the alleys of Khan el-Khalili, we prepare for the drive back to your accommodation in Cairo.

Day 4: Cairo Vacation

You are on vacation so you should also relax a bit! Everyone wants to spend their day off in a different way, so we already prepared a lot of different ideas of how you can explore Cairo on your own or together with our tour guide. Be it shopping or a visit to one of the traditional cafes, the metropolis of Cairo is always worth a visit!

Day 5: Flight Cairo – Luxor / Karnak Temple – Luxor Temple

Early in the morning we leave Cairo for the flight to Luxor. Once there, our Egyptologist will welcome you to take you to the first highlight of our Luxor sights, the

Karnak Temple

With a visit to the Karnak Temple, you enter one of the largest temple complexes ever built in the history of mankind, and you sure will be overwhelmed by this masterpiece of architecture and details like the big pillared hall, the famous Hypostyle Hall and the 300 tons heavy Obelisk inside the temple complex (how as this one even erected at that time?). Also, the several small temples and chapels inside are impressive. Our Egyptologist will explain to you some more about the construction of Karnak Temple and the stones that came from the quarries in southern Egypt over the Nile River to Luxor.

Take a stroll through the temple complex - we are sure you will be amazed when you look at the massive monuments in which the life of the Egyptians during the time of the Pharaohs took place. Before leaving the Karnak Temple behind us, we visit the outside area of the temple complex with the so-called "holy lake", which is still full of water and was used for ceremonial ablution. From here, we make our way to the next stop of our Cairo day tours to the no less attractive

Luxor Temple

At the time of the pharaohs in Egypt, the Luxor Temple was connected to Karnak Temple by a processional path. Today this path has been restored after many years of restoration work. The temple complex is on the beautiful promenade of Luxor and was in contrast to Karnak Temple, not used for worship but as a coronation temple. Luxor Temple is also one of the most famous sights on Luxor East Bank.

Alexander the Great had the 4 pillars that once supported the roof removed and a chapel built inside. If the Luxor Temple served as a fortress in Roman times, it was not until the first century AD. that four churches were built on its site, of which only ruins remain today. While we walk through the beautiful colonnades to the Holy of Holies, our Egyptologist will explain the well-preserved inscriptions on the columns to you.

We leave Luxor Temple for an overnight stay in an exclusive Hotel on Luxor East Bank. Here you can relax in the evening or take part in one of our optional Luxor excursions, such as a visit to the Karnak sound and light show.

Day 6: Luxor West Bank – Valley of the Kings – Hatshepsut Temple – Colossi of Memnon

Yesterday you already could spot the opposite bank, the so-called Luxor West Bank, which we will visit right after your breakfast in the hotel.

Here you can choose what makes you happy. Cross the Nile River by boat to the opposite bank where we will collect you, or take a trip by van towards the nearby bridge to cross the Nile River.

After arriving at Luxor West Bank, we first drive further to the famous tombs of the pharaohs, hidden in the impressive Valley of the Kings.

Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings is hidden in a rock massif and is one of the most spectacular places among the Luxor sights. Far more than the 65 famous tombs have been discovered, of which we will visit 3 during our visit. Our archaeologist is more than happy to help you to choose the 3 most interesting graves.

The most famous tomb in the Valley of the Kings is the grave of Tutankhamun, whose grave goods you can see in the famous Egyptian Museum in Cairo. His tomb can be visited, together with the one of Seti I and Ramses VI, for a surcharge.

After entering the tombs, you will be lead into the depths of the rocky mountains. Let yourself be overwhelmed by the well-preserved paintings on the walls, which tell the story of the respective kings. It makes a big difference to see the tombs of the pharaohs in pictures or to feel the fascinations of this necropolis yourself.

We leave the Valley of the Kings and go to the next Luxor sights, the beautiful

Hatshepsut Temple

which is illuminated in the evening from the promenade of the Luxor East Bank and invites us in the morning for a visit. We reach Hatshepsut Temple, created by Queen Hatshepsut, the only female ruler over Egypt for more than 22 years. The temple complex is an architectural masterpiece built at a particularly strategic location in the rocky mountains of the Luxor West Bank.

The Hatshepsut Temple can be reached by many steps and allows from the front a view over the wide riverbank of the Nile River while the back is secured by the rock massif. To this day, the terraced temple can keep up with modern construction methods. At the top of the temple complex, some well-preserved reliefs that cover the masonry await you. Our Egyptologist is always available to answer any questions you may have about the history of the Hatshepsut Temple.

From the beautiful view over the Nile Valley, we make our way back to Luxor East Bank. Here we take a lunch break close to our next destination on Luxor West Bank. It awaits you a short stop at the guardians of the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III, the

Colossi of Memnon

Today the Colossi of Memnon are standing very lonely at the entrance of the rocky mountains on the West Bank of the Nile River and were once known for their "singing". This phenomenon was caused by the wind that made its way to the cracks in the massive statues. During restoration work, the gaps were closed, and the voices of the Colossi of Memnon fell silent.

We reach the end of our 6th day of our 8 Day Tour Cairo Luxor incl. Flight to 2 famous city Egypt and drive back to Luxor East Bank for a relaxing night in your hotel.

Day 7: Luxor Vacation

Today it's time to relax, enjoy your day off, discover Luxor's beautiful promenade or optionally take part in another great experience.

Are you an early bird? In this case, consider joining us on another Luxor experience, one of the Luxor hot air balloon rides in the sunrise. Enjoy the ride over Luxor, known as the largest open-air museum in the world and the fascinating Nile Valley with a bird's eye view of some of the Luxor sights.
